Short trail through trees to beautiful lakes. Very popular. The hike to Fourth of July Lake is one of the easiest hikes to a high elevation lake in the Sawtooth National Recreation Area. The trail is well maintained and easy to follow, though the 9,530' elevation may give some pause. Portions of the trail are rocky, but very manageable. Due to its high elevation, this trail is often not accessible until early July. Mosquitos can be bothersome in early season but wildflowers abound.
WATER
Plenty of water available along Fourth of July Creek, Fourth of July and Washington Lakes. Always use a water filter when getting water on the trail.
CAUTION
This is a very popular and heavily used trail. Best to avoid weekends, and hike later in season (mid- to late-July) to avoid residual snow patches. This trail is open to bicycles and motorcycles, so hikers should exercise caution on the trail.
