The trail begins gradually, with beautiful mountain views. After about a mile there is small pond which is a great stopping/turnaround spot if you are with young children. If you continue, the trail descends into Toxaway Canyon, which is also home to McDonald Lake. Yellow Belly Lake is heavily forested and is a great swimming spot on hot days.
