To access the trailhead, drive 17.7 miles from Stanley on Highway 75, and turn right Pettit Lake Road (gravel). A sign indicates "Pettit Lake". Follow road 1.5 miles to a four-way intersection. Turn right, cross the bridge, bear left at the "Y" intersection, and drive 0.6 mile to the Tin Cup Transfer Camp parking area. Find the trailhead at the southwest corner of the parking area. Restrooms are available.

WATER
Pettit Lake, creeks, ponds, and Alice Lake. Always use a water filter when getting water on the trail. 

WILDERNESS
No mechanised travel is allowed within the wilderness area. Hiking and horseback riding are allowed, mountain biking and motorcycle riding are forbidden.
CAUTION
Early season hikers may find many stream crossings. Bring water shoes, and exercise caution while crossing streams, especially during high runoff years. Upper portions of the trail have high sun exposure, so bring sun protection.
