The trail begins in Elk Meadow and crosses a bridge over Elk Creek. After the bridge, turn right up the only real elevation gain for this hike. After 180 foot climb, turn right at the sign junctioned to Elk Meadow. Good picnic spot around 0.7 mile at the meadow. Parties with small children, this is a good spot to turn around. The trail winds in and out of trees and meadows, and ends at a signed trail junction at 2.5 miles. (The trail continues on as Elizabeth Lake trail.)
